Ison Rock Ridge

For 4 years, we have held up the permitting process for Ison Rock Ridge, the proposed 1,200-acre surface coal mine that would affect the quality of life in 5 communities, including the Town of Appalachia.  According to Mike Abbott, at the Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, the review to determine whether mining should in fact take place on this site has been one of the longest on record. In large part due to citizen outrage, the EPA has intervened in the permitting process and is currently standing between A+G coal and Ison Rock ridge. Check out the links below to follow the fight of Wise county residents in protecting the health and viability of our community against this destruction.
